Metal, metal, metal

Hi everyone. If you read my other blog, Pretty Things, then you'll know that I've been hit really hard by the death of my cat, a pet I've had for half my life. It's knocked the creative wind out of my sails, and I promise, I DO have a nice collaborative project coming up, but right now -- just not the time.

So I thought I'd share with you the rest of the metal pendants I made at Tracy Stanley's class at BeadFest back in, what was it, April? Yes, I finally got around to taking pictures of them! That's how slowly my life has been moving. So enjoy -- and I'll be back with more soon, I promise.

This one is called "Misty River and is made with brass and copper that I dapped, textured, riveted, and linked and then added the lampwork bead to. I constantly have a bowl of orphan beads on hand for projects just like this.

This one is "Stonybrook", and I did the same thing -- lots of texturing, dapping, and riveting, but this time I added a river rock to the bottom. Like it?

See you soon,

Lori

  1. Hello, I just read about your kitty. I, too, had a small furry shadow who went everywhere with me. He went into renal failure just over 3 yrs ago. I thought my heart would break when I lost him. It took me about two years to be able to talk about him and tell stories about him, without pain. Hang in there! Everyone will wait for you.

As for the metal work, it's great! And that lampwork bead is gorgeous.

  2. Looking good Lori! Is the metal all etched? It looks like it was a fun class. Keep pushing forward....

  3. How did you texture those metal pieces? With a stamp or is there some other kind of tool. That looks really cool.

  4. The metal isn't etched -- I used a heavy brass plate that had the texture on it, taped it to a bench block, and then whacked holy heck out of the piece I was trying to texture. If I wanted to stamp it afterwards, I had to make sure I used my 2-lb hammer.

  6. SWEET Lori! Those pendants are freaking awesome. The texturing is making me want to get out my texture plates and do some experimenting!!!! Thanks for your comments, they mean a lot to me. Beth

  9. Dale, I bought a pack directly from Tracy Stanley when I took her class, but then I also found some brass texture strips from Metalliferous (I think I spelled that right, I always get it wrong) -- they would be a good source.

  12. Lori, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. I was just thinking of my Wheaton terrier last night, who has been gone for 2 years. I still get a lump in my throat. Our animals are in heaven.

Changing the subject (couldn't find a segue from grief to jewelry), the central brass piece, is that an eyelet, the nut of a nut and bolt set-up, a tube rivet. What the heck is that because it look way cool! I need a lesson!
