Another class -- enameling

(enameled heart by Barbara Lewis)

Keeping true to my word that I'm going to stretch my skills, I've signed up for yet another class, this one with Barbara Lewis of Jewelry of Distinction. She was recently featured in Belle Armoire magazine, and I'm so excited to get to take this class -- not just so I can learn metal enameling, but because I'll get to meet some of my online blogging friends!

I'm pretty proud of myself for jumping in with both feet and signing up for classes. With five classes scheduled already for this year, I'm taking as many as I've taken in the past five years! I think the next class I'll be looking for is a lampwork class, but I'll wait a while for that, taking the time instead to explore and play on my own for a while to get the basics handily under my belt before venturing into a classroom setting.

I'm on my way, baby step by baby step.

So how are you doing?

You can see my work at, and read my other blog at

  1. You are inspiring me.

I am so enamoured by the enameling!

It brings back memories from my school's art fair in 1972ish.. a wonderful artist/parent helped us kids make some beautiful enameled copper pendants. We sprinkled pretty stuff on the copper...put it in a oven, and we came back for it later. A VIVID memory for me, so many years later.

  2. Jealousy is rearing its ugly head in my house! I want to take that class! Why oh why can't I be closer to that?
I will be taking as many classes as I can stuff into the Bead & Button show though. As many as my family will allow me to take when I am gone the last week of school!
    Enjoy the day!

  3. Can't wait to see what you will create! Enjoy!

  4. That sounds really cool. I have been branching out to mixed media things as of late and just discovered on ETSY and others, ACEO. Sort of papercraft, metal, ceramic, anything goes kinds of materials. I am now playing with polymer and stamping. I love different materials. I am sure you will get a lot out of your classes and be able to incorporate a bunch into your designs! Have a great weekend!

  5. So cool! I'm excited to see what you are going to make. I love that you are taking the bull by the horns so to speak and blogging about it. Thank you for doing this. It's great to hear about all of the artistic endeavors you are embarking on!

  6. Good for you! That's so exciting that you have so many classes available to you:) It sounds like great fun.

  7. Good for you, Lori! You are going to really grow as an artist!

  8. Oh I am so jealous. We looked at a house today with an attached garage that has already been converted into a shop. This house would be so perfect as I would have a bedroom set aside for a studio and a shop so that I can get into playing with flames. Enameling is also something that has fascinated me but need a dedicated spot because of the dust.
