An Artist Needs a New Look

Not only do I want to reinvent my jewelry, but I want to reinvent myself -- just a bit.

I've already been working out, something I used to do with a slightly frightening passion in my 20's but dropped with astonishing suddenness in my 30's. Changing my body is just going to take too long, though, so the next thing on the list? The hair.

My hair is naturally dark brown. I've always secretly admired people who rocked purple hair, wild streaks of bright color -- women with rebelliously beautiful locks. I've never felt cool enough to try it out myself, and honestly never wanted to draw that much attention to my face. Crazy jewelry? Sure, I can pull that off with no problem. People notice the jewelry, not the person wearing it. But do something to draw attention to ME? Scary.

I have a super stylist, and last appointment, she gave me highlights in the auburn color I craved -- just a little taste to let me get used to the idea of fun. Thursday, I took the plunge and went for it. I'm now officially auburn with strawberry blond highlights.

The photo doesn't do the color justice, but I can tell you that it did take me about a day to get used to. I'd catch a glimpse of myself in the rear view mirror and think, "Woah. What did you do???" But now, I like it. I feel like an artist. I feel
like just because I have red hair, by default I'm fierce and confident and creative.

Amazing what a bottle of hair color can do.

  2. Love the new look!

I went for "Cherry Chocolate" this past fall. So glad I did it. Feels like the hair finally matches my artistic spirit!

It does wonders when you finally find a stylist that "get you", doesn't it?!

  5. Love it! I have been through my rockin' red phases before. I have now come back to my "roots" (not THOSE roots...I do try to cover up the ever increasing gray...) My hair in naturally a very dark brown, almost black. I am back there now, and I love it. I plan to keep it that way until I can safely assume that most of my head is gray, then I will let loose and go natural in another way! Great that you are reinventing yourself. Enjoy the day! Erin

You are a bold woman....it looks totally natural on you and I love the cut! You do have a great stylist. Now you look more like 2 of my boys than I do with that red hair! :-)

  11. You look wonderful...when I compare your photo to the one on the side bar...wow...

You have a great hairstylist as your color looks very natural...I some times find reds look a little off!!!

I was a hairstylist for 14 years and I think I've been almost every color imaginable... I enjoyed the red/copper days very much...and kept it in those tones for years!! I think sometimes it makes us feel rather unique & daring?

    It suits you well...enjoy.

  14. It looks great! Good for you for trying something new. I know what you mean, I love to express myself through my appearance, but I wonder if at my age I should tone it down. I don't like to bring attention to myself, I just like what I like. I have purple hair right now, which I love, but at 47 1/2, I wonder if Ishould change it.
Ha ha, the word verification is "brulete" that's close to brunette. I think it's a sign that I should change my hair color ;)
